BUY LESS, CHOOSE WELL, MAKE IT LAST

Sustainable consumption is the use of products and services in ways that minimizes impacts on the environment. Sustainable consumption is done in a way that needs are meet for present humans but also for future generations. Sustainable consumption is often paralleled with sustainable production; consumption refers to use and disposal (or recycling) not just by individuals and households, but also by governments, businesses, and other organizations. Consumption of products and services impacts the environment in many different ways. For example, the things we buy contribute, directly or indirectly through the product lifecycle, to climate change, pollution, biodiversity loss and resource depletion in Europe and other regions. Current consumption leads to unsustainable waste levels. In 2008, every citizen on average threw out 444 kg of household waste, and indirectly generated 5.2 tonnes of waste in the European economy. And this is just in the EU - no data are available on waste generated from producing products and materials which are imported from other regions. The motto of this mobility is „BUY LESS, CHOOSE WELL, MAKE IT LAST“. Through many TINY STEPS we make in our schools and local communities we want to draw attention to this problem and offer our solution which will contribute to GREAT CHANGES. We want our peers and our teachers, as well as our citizens to become aware  that the things we buy impact our environment in a significant way, and that we can live with less if we choose well and make it last.

Firstly, we had organized various activities in our schools related to sustainable consumption. Then, during the mobility we jointly made the Great Fair of Sustainability with five stands, each one devoted to a content block, with final products from each mobility. We also learned how to transform waste materials (building materials and old shoes) into new objects of environmental value and wrote the fifth, final stanza of our Anthem to Sustainability.
