BARCELOS

Barcelos means «riverside and flat land», an expression present in the oldest documents referring to the city. At least since the 13th century, a weekly fair has been held in Barcelos on Thursdays, where farmers and artisans sell their products.

It is in the district of Braga, in the northern region and sub-region of Cávado, with about 20 625 inhabitants.

It is the seat of a municipality with 378.9 km² in area and 120 391 inhabitants (2011), subdivided into 61 parishes. The municipality is limited to the north by the municipalities of Viana do Castelo and Ponte de Lima, to the east by Vila Verde and Braga, to the southeast by Vila Nova de Famalicão, to the southwest by Póvoa de Varzim and to the west by Esposend . The municipality of Barcelos is subdivided into 61 parishes. There were 86 until the reorganization of 2012, having been and remaining the municipality with the largest number of parishes.

Barcelos is a land rich in handicrafts, known for the capital of Portuguese handicrafts. Existing the most diverse types of art tourist routes were created. It is known for the traditional rooster of Barcelos.

The Barcelos School Group had its genesis on the 4th of July 2012, resulting from the aggregation of the Barcelos Secondary School and the group of schools that constituted the Abel Varzim School Group. It is a grouping of schools with a significant dimension, implanted in a vast territory of the Municipality of Barcelos, on both banks of the Cávado and offers an educational response to the student population since the urban area of ​​Barcelos to the limits of the municipal borders with Póvoa de Varzim and Esposende.

Over the past 10 years, AEB has carried out several European projects in the area of ​​Comenius, Leonardo da Vinci, Individual Student Mobility, Comenius Assistant, Continuing Teacher Education and now Erasmus +. The internationalization of students in the group is a strong point of AEB and contributes to the improvement of their development and to the prolongation of their intervention in the labor market. For teachers, we recognize the importance of continuous learning, and for that reason we support their access to continuous training. This incentive goes beyond national borders because the Union supports training actions at European and international level, within the framework of the Erasmus + Program. More than 2000 mobilities have already been successful within the school and local communities. We have extensive experience in organizing and receiving partners. We are an Inclusive group, we integrate students with special educational needs and students with fewer opportunities in all the projects in which we participate. In the 2020-2021 academic year, the Group consists of: 9 classes and 136 students in pre-school education; 19 classes with 321 students in the 1st cycle of basic education 9 classes with 147 students in the 2nd cycle 25 classes with 445 students in the 3rd cycle of basic education 34 classes and 753 students in secondary education 14 classes with 280 in the courses professionals (15 - 21) In other words, a total of 110 classes and 2082 students across the group. The ages of AEB students are between 3 and 21 years old.
