DOROHOI
Dorohoi is one of the oldest urban settlements in Moldova. The first documentary mention of Dorohoi dates as far back as the 15th century, on 6 October 1407. Short after, the city became the administrative center of Northern Moldova. However, at the beginning of the 16th century, this prestige lured Polish and Tatar invaders that put the settlement to fire and sword.
Its memorable historical episodes include the contribution and sacrifice of the inhabitants of Dorohoi during the War for Independence, held in 1877 – 1878, against the Ottoman forces. Another notable event was the polgrom initiated against the Jewish population on 1 July 1940, in Dorohoi. According to an official report, 53 Jews, among whom women and children, lost their lives. The Jewish community maintains, however, that the number of Jews killed was much higher: approximately 200 souls.
Annual events and cultural manifestations with a rich tradition, representative for the community, are organized annually in Dorohoi. People can thus attend art and music festivals for all ages and tastes: from pop to traditional and classical music, from poetry to painting, as well as customs and traditions festivals specific to the winter holidays.
There are 724 pupils and 41 primary and secondary teachers in our school, the largest public school in Dorohoi. We are involved in different kinds of activities covering a large number of areas: social, economic, volunteering, ICT, foreign languages, etc. We have a close relationship with the local community and the parents' association. Our students are 6-15 years old. They study English and French as foreign languages.
We are an Eco-school and we have had the green flag for 11 years. Our aim is to provide every child with the opportunity to acquire the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values necessary to shape a sustainable future by integrating priority sustainable development issues into teaching and learning.
